Tracey Emin’s Fiat brings £42,000 at auction | Motoring News | Honest John

An auction lot featuring a Fiat 500 especially designed by artist Tracey Emin has brought in £42,000 at a charity auction.

The vehicle was put up for grabs in order to raise money for the PEAS charity, which is looking to build libraries in schools in Uganda.

Before the end of 2008, Emin will have placed four of the cars up for auction, each one looking to take her work "quite literally out of the gallery and on to the street".

"I really enjoyed working on the Fiat 500, which I refer to as the ‘mouse car’," the artist commented.

Drivers with more traditional taste may be interested to learn that the Fiat 500 with a regular paint scheme hits Fiat dealerships from January 2008.

Past projects from Tracey Emin include 1999 Turner Prize piece My Bed, which saw the artist exhibit an untidy bed surrounded by used condoms and blood-stained underwear.
